Leading Welsh events company expands worldwide profile
19th May, 2008
Wales based event production company - Push4 - has been appointed as sole production supplier for prestigious contemporary dance production Sutra - including a run at London's acclaimed Sadler's Wells theatre.
Sutra is the the forthcoming collaboration between one of Europe's most exciting dancer-choreographers Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Turner Prize winner Antony Gormley and 17 Buddhist monks from China's Shaolin Temple. Working alongside Gormley and Cherkaoui, Push4 will be instrumental in realising the pairs' artistic vision on this unique work; the first true collaboration between Western artists and the Shaolin Temple.
Push4 will manage the production of Sutra from its conception in China to its world premiere at Sadler's Wells in London on Tuesday 27 May, before embarking on an ambitious three year world tour.
Push4 Director and Project Manager Alastair Wilson said: "This dynamic and inspirational project is ideal for Push4. It requires our unique mix of commercial knowledge and artistic flair to achieve.
"As well as supervising the technical aspects and building the set we are also providing and managing all staff, logistics, venue liaison and budgets on a global scale. It will no doubt be challenging, but we relish this opportunity to expand our ever developing international profile."
Sutra explores the philosophy and faith behind the Shaolin tradition, its relationship with Kung-Fu, and its position within a contemporary context. Gormley has created a constructed environment for the performers and Polish composer Szymon Brzóska has produced a brand new score for piano, percussion and strings.
It will be the second time Push4 have production credits at the UK's premier dance house Sadler's Wells.
The relationship between the production company and dedicated international dance venue began in 2007, when Push4 took on full production management of the phenonemally successful and Olivier Award-winning show PUSH, featuring French ballerina and dance superstar Sylvie Guillem, in her unique collaboration with the contemporary choreographer Russell Maliphant.
